Throughout my life I have been struck by the resiliency of individuals and families when provided with the right support, guidance and compassion.  With this in mind, I have pursued education and training to learn how to provide this type of support.  As an undergraduate, I majored in both psychology and biology to better understand how our thoughts, emotions, temperament, age, genes and relationships interact to affect our behaviors.  I chose to pursue a Ph.D. because I wanted to gain in depth training in interpreting and understanding psychological research on effective treatments in order to provide guidance to clients based on empirical data in addition to my clinical experience.  During my doctoral training, I worked with individuals and families from many different cultural backgrounds and was awarded a research grant via Autism Speaks for my dissertation on how children with autism develop communication skills based upon relationships with their parents.  My internship training focused on interventions for hospitalized children experiencing difficult medical procedures, adolescents coping with eating disorders, and helping children with a wide variety of mental health challenges from depression to anxiety.  These interventions included assessment as well as individual, family and group therapy.  During my post-doctoral fellowship I worked intensively with parents and children ages 0-6 with a numerous developmental, behavioral and psychological challenges.
